Workshop Outline
DAY 1
When clients seek help for their sexual behaviors many are confused and feel trapped. Many clients experience tremendous shame because they have hurt others close to them.
- Learn what sexual addiction is and what sexual addiction is not.
- Understand how to assess your client’s sexual behaviours and other mental health issues that are often present with sexual compulsivity.
- Discover three strategies for getting the real story behind your client’s sexual behaviors.
- How to remove barriers to recovery.
- Which strategies are most effective for working through deep shame.
- How to connect with clients and get them to buy into the treatment process.
- How to help you clients beyond obtaining sobriety.
- How to help your client build their long- term recovery plan.
DAY 2
Understanding the needs of clients who have been betrayed can be overwhelming, even for seasoned clinicians. Over the past 12 years, Dr. Kevin Skinner has studied the long-lasting impact of betrayal trauma. He has built a treatment model around research that suggests PTSD symptoms.
- Understand your client’s natural responses when they experience sexual betrayal
- Assess your client level of trauma
- Provide a battery of assessments to help you identify areas that you will need to focus on with your client’s
- Develop a treatment plan based on your client’s needs
- Use research based treatment strategies for treating betrayal trauma

As a core faculty of IITAP, he’s traveled the world sharing his research and training therapists.
